Ikorodu United Appoint Nigeria Goalkeeping Legend Ike Shorunmu As Goalkeeper Coach

Ex-Super Eagles international Ike Shorunmu has been appointed by Lagos based club Ikorodu United as it’s new goalkeeper coach as the club aims to escape relegation this season. The management of the Lagos based outfit also announced Shakiru Giwa as assistant to new coach Theodorus Jacob de Jong’s as they continue their fight against relegation.

“The management of Ikorodu United is glad to announce the addition of new assistant coach and goal keeper trainee, Shakiru Giwa and Ike Shoromu,” a statement from the team read. Ikorodu United are bottom of the NPFL table with just 15 points from 21 games.

Angry Crowd Beats Policeman To Coma For Killing Motorcyclist

A trigger-happy policeman, on Tuesday, killed a motorcyclist at the beach junction of Nsukka while trying to shoot into the air. It was gathered that the policeman, whose identity was not released to the media, is attached to the Nsukka Building Material Taskforce set up by the Nsukka Local Government Transitional Committee Chairman, Rose Onah. A witness said the taskforce numbering eight with four policemen were trying to compel a cement dealer to pay a fine for refusing to move to the building material permanent site. “The pleading by the cement dealer attracted sympathy from people in the area who joined in begging the taskforce members to leave the man alone but they refused,” the witness said. According to him, when the policemen saw the number of people closing up on them, they began to shoot into the air to scare people away. One of the policemen, while trying to raise his riffle up lost control and shot a motorcyclist who was just coming out from a nearby restaurant after eating. Premium times learnt that the killing sparked a demonstration, with the people of the area pouncing on the policeman that shot the man. The operative was beaten to coma before a team of policemen from Nsukka police station arrived the scene. The team scared off the crowd, evacuated the dead motorcyclist and the wounded policeman. When contacted, the chairman of Nsukka LGA, Rose Onah, said she had heard what happened but was yet to be fully briefed on the incident. PREMIUM TIMES

NFF To Name Super Eagles Coach July

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will unveil a new coach for the Super Eagles in July, it has been revealed. Chris Green, the NFF Technical and Development Committee chairman, has given firm assurances that they would make sure that all the issues around naming a new manager for the Super Eagles were sorted unfailingly by next month. The Super Eagles have been without a substantive coach since Sunday Oliseh resigned and according to Green a lot of applications have been received for the vacant post. “We have submitted our recommendation to the NFF executive board members after receiving a lot of applications from coaches who have shown interest in the job,” Green revealed. At the moment, Salisu Yusuf has been in charge of the Eagles in interim capacity with the duo of Rangers coach, Imama Amapakabo, and Abia Warriors manager, Kennedy Boboye, assisting. Super Eagles are in a tough group for Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers together with Zambia’s Chipolopolo, Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions and Algeria’s Desert Foxes. Meanwhile, while the federal government might have foreclosed the hope of hiring a foreign coach, the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation is at only at cross purposes on who to appoint, but bent on hiring a foreigner. This is because Amaju Pinnick, NFF President, favours the appointment of Serbian’s Goran Stefanovic, while the Technical Committee headed by Chris Green wants Frenchman, Paul Le Guen. Pinnick is keen on the Serb’s abilities due to his wealth of experience especially in Africa and affordability in comparison to other coaches who will demand higher wages. 254 Teachers Drag Governor Wike To Court Over Unpaid Salaries

254 teachers have dragged the Governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike to the National Industrial Court in Bayelsa state, following the non-payment of their salaries since February 2016. Punch reports that the problem started when the Governor announced that his administration will no longer pay the salaries of teachers who work in demonstration schools of institutions like; The Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, and Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, because the students pay school fees. The teachers asked the court to order Wike to pay their salaries adding that their employers refused to pay them since he made the announcement. They also prayed the court to declare as illegal, the decision of the Rivers Governor to stop the payment of their salaries. Also, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state described Governor Nyesom Wike as a bloodthirsty and satanic politician.

25 Year Old Nigerian Man Arrested In South Africa For Selling Drugs Worth N280,000 On The Streets

On Wednesday June 8, concerned local residents called the police over suspicious activities by a 25-year-old Nigerian drug dealer in East Rand, South Africa. Drug Enforcement Unit swooped into the area around 4am that morning after receiving a tip-off. Police spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago, said the metro police put the man under surveillance in the early hours of the morning – along Paul Smith Street where he plies his illicit trade. At around 7.45am police confronted the suspect and found him in possession of drugs in block form, estimated to be worth R15 000 on the streets. Along with the drugs – three cellphones and cash amounting to R160 were also confiscated from the suspect. The 25-year-old Nigerian man was charged at the police station with possession and dealing in illicit substances and is expected to appear in court soon.

EFCC Seizes 29 Properties From Three Ex-Air Force Chiefs

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has seized 29 properties from the immediate past Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu; a former Chief of Accounts and Budgeting in NAF, Air Vice Marshal Jacob Adigun (retd.); and a former Director of Finance and Budget, Air Commodore Olugbenga Gbadebo (retd.). It was gathered that 11 properties were seized from Amosu, 12 seized from Adigun and six from Gbadebo. According to Punch, the siezed properties included three plazas, six mansions, a quarry, a hospital, a block of flats, animal farms, a school, two hotels, some uncompleted buildings and some parcels of land. The report said those properties were acquired mostly in 2014. The properties seized from Adigun were said to be worth N9.6bn. Some of the properties include a shopping plaza known as Capadar Plaza on Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse 2, which is worth N980m; a residential mansion on Lake Chad Street, Maitama, Abuja, worth N450m; an executive mansion in Imo River Close, Off Dandube Crescent, Maitama, worth N710m and a four-unit terrace on Agadez Street, Off Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, worth N720m. Other properties, said to belong to Adigun, include a 35-room uncompleted hotel on Salt Lake Street, Maitama, Abuja; a parcel of land located on Bourdillon Street, Ikoyi, Lagos; a block of 12 service flats, located on Agodogba Street, Park View Estate, Ikoyi, said to be worth N1.8bn and a quarry in Bwari area of Abuja worth about $694,000.

Mike G says Brown had the audacity to tell people working on his tour, if they got out of line he'd beat them just like he beat Mike G. Mike G says Brown's rage was drug-fueled and the suit mention concern for retaliation from Brown's "gang member friends." Mike G's attorney, Patty Glaser, tells TMZ, "We did everything we could to resolve this in a non-public way to avoid damage to Chris Brown. Regrettably, as outlined in our complaint, Chris Brown has proven to be his own worst enemy." Reports from Spain have claimed that Real Madrid midfielder, James Rodriguez has reportedly kicked off preparations for a move to Manchester United. President Buhari appoints Boss Gida Mustapha as MD of National Inland Waterways Authority

President Buhari has approved the appointment of Boss Gida Mustapha as the new Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA). Mustapha's appointment was contained in a statement released and signed today by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Babachir David Lawal. "President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr. Boss Gida Mustapha, as the new Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA). Mr. Mustapha is a lawyer with extensive experience in both private and public sectors in management positions. The appointment is for a term of four years in the first instance.”he said

Alleged Forgery: FG To Arraign Saraki, Ekweremadu Tomorrow

Senate President Bukola Saraki and his Deputy Ike Ekweremadu would on Tuesday appear before a Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged forgery of Senate standing order used for the elections of presiding officers of the Senate last year, June 9. According to a popular daily, Saraki and Ekweremadu would be arraigned with their co-accused before Justice Yusuf Halilu on two counts of forgery and criminal conspiracy tomorrow. The Federal Government stated that the offence of conspiracy is punishable under Section 97 (1) of the Penal Code Act; and offence of forgery with “fraudulent intent” punishable under Section 364 of the same law. Saraki will also appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for his ongoing 16-count corruption charges, bordering on alleged false and anticipatory asset declaration. Both the FCT High Court and the CCT share a boundary in Jabi area of Abuja. It will be recalled that the CCT had on June 15 adjourned the trial of Saraki till June 21 following a fresh motion he filed, seeking the disqualification of the CCT Chairman, Danladi Umar, from further presiding over the case.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu (APC-Lagos Central), on Friday distributed 250 General Certificate of Education (GCE) forms to students to enable them write the examination and seek to advance their education. Tinubu distributed the forms at a Town Hall Meeting organised by her in Lagos with the theme: “Creating Purposeful Partnership.’’ She said the gesture was to appreciate the partnership and support of her constituency, as well as bring government closer to the people. “The purpose of this gathering, among other things, is to bring the government closer to the people. “Your cooperation and partnership over the years has been purposeful as elders, men, women and youth,’’ she said. The senator urged her constituency to continue to pray and support the present government as it strives to make Nigeria better. “All hands have to be on deck to achieve that new Nigeria we voted for. “I implore you to keep your unwavering confidence and faith in this nation and in the present government as we are all in the planting season and sooner there shall be bountiful harvest,’’ Tinubu said.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has decided not to offer the assistant managerial position to club legend Ryan Giggs. It was gathered that the Portuguese manager is worried about having a direct rival working alongside him that may not provide the loyal support he expects. Previous reports claim the former Chelsea boss wanted Giggs to be part of his coaching staff but a new report by The Times claim otherwise. Mourinho has decided against naming Giggs as his assistant because of his ambitions to be manager himself one day given he had thought the job would be his when Louis van Gaal was originally scheduled to leave in 2017. The report claims “Mourinho demands unswerving loyalty and complete support in everything he does from his backroom team”, and would therefore feel “uncomfortable” should Giggs continue to work beneath him. Mourinho believes the Welshman could have done more in his role as an assistant coach to Van Gaal, and David Moyes before him.Mourinho is worried about Giggs touchline antics which saw his always sitting on the touchlines like Van Gaal and a shrink when things were at their worst has not been lost on some people. It is even suggested that Mourinho finds Giggs’ close friendship with Paul Scholes to be disturbing. Mourinho wants Giggs to take a role in the club’s youth setup just like Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique did at Barcelona but Giggs would see such a move as a step back. It is said that despite being passed over for assistant manager – a role to be filled by long-standing Mourinho ally Rui Faria – he would have still preferred to stay at the club. But, with Mourinho keeping him away from the first-team staff, his options are juniors or nothing.

Female School teacher Remanded In Kirikiri For Defiling Female Pupil

The police on Thursday arraigned in court a school teacher, identified as Miss Violet Emu for allegedly defiling a 4-year old female pupil. It will be recalled that the victim who is a pupil of Light Bearers Private School at Iyana-Isashi area was reportedly defiled by the schoolmistress recently during school hours. The victim said: “My Aunt in school raised my uniform up and put her fingers inside my bum-bum in the class, while others were sleeping. She asked me not to tell my mother or anybody.” The victim was later taken to the Hospital where it was confirmed that her hymen has been broken while the case was reported at Iyana-Isashi Police Division. After interrogating the schoolmistress, the Police Officer took the victim to Mirabel Centre in Ikeja where a medical examination at the centre also confirmed that the victim was actually defiled. Miss Violet, who was arraigned before Magistrate Osunsanmi on one count of defilement, pleaded not guilty. Osunsanmi ordered that Violet should be remanded at the Kirikiri prison until her bail terms were perfected. The matter was adjourned till September 8, 2016, for trial.

According to Benue News, the woman who hails from Otukpo local government area of the state conceived through Intro fertilisation ( IVF) and was delivered through caesarean section. Mother and the triplets are doing very well.
