inspired by love for FELA:Sare Wale Zaina

When you talk about female artistes in Nigeria
with talent and good looks, Soul Muzik’s Zaina
will be on the list. Armed with a sultry look and
melodious vocal chords, Zaina, is a hot item any
day. She recently opened up to Showtime on the
inspiration behind her afrobeat song, Sare wale.
“The inspiration behind Sare wale is a common
love shared for the late musician, Fela
Anikulapokuti. The producer, Shizzi, and I happen
to both be huge Fela enthusiasts, so it wasn’t
much of a surprise when he played me the beat.
After listening once, I let my creativity take the
driver’s seat and started to freestyle whatever
came to mind at that time. Seventy five percent
of the song was created at that moment. It all
came together naturally and spiritually,” she said.
On how she was able to blend into the afro beat
genre despite being known to be an R n B artiste
she said: “I would actually say my back ground is
more afrobeat than R n B. Even though I was
raised in the U.S, I grew up listening and knowing
all of Fela’s music, as well as Fuji musicians and
High-life. As an entertainer I would consider my
ability to confidently blend my western
background with my Nigerian background as my
selling point and entertain my audience.”

EPL:Kanu urges Ideye to be calm, Score Goals

Brown Ideye revealed he has received advice from
Albion fans’ favourite and compatriot Nwankwo
Kanu as he strives to succeed at The Hawthorns,
according to a story published on the club official
website.
Ideye arrived in the Black Country earlier this
summer for a club-record transfer fee from
Dynamo Kiev.
The Nigeria international striker made his Baggies
bow as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s
goalless draw against Southampton at St Mary’s,
twice coming close to a debut goal.
And, speaking afterwards, Ideye admitted he had
spoken to fellow Nigerian Kanu in order to get the
lowdown on how to become a hit at Albion.
Kanu spent two years with the Baggies between
2004-06, scoring a total of nine goals in 58
appearances and memorably playing his part in
the Great Escape.
Ideye said: “I spoke with Kanu, once or twice in a
week. He’s a great guy.
“He told me to be myself and try to do my best
on the pitch, to score goals so that hopefully the
fans and the club would be behind me.
“He just told me to give my best in every game
and try to get my head down and listen to what
the manager has to say and also what my fellow
players are telling me.”
Having had to wait around three weeks for his
work permit application process to complete,
Ideye was forced to miss Albion’s pre-season
tour of the US.
He finally arrived in the UK on August 8 and has
wasted little time getting started.
The 25-year-old insists he is loving life at Albion
and will ‘soon’ be operating at 100% fitness
levels.
And Ideye has hailed the great team spirit on
show at the club and the warm welcome he has
received from team-mates and fans alike.
“They have supported me from the very first day I
signed,” he said.
“They have given me all their support and waited
for me to get on the pitch and play. On Saturday I
went on and gave my best, so I believe they will
be happy for me.
“The players too are really happy for me getting
on the pitch.”
Ideye added: “I think this season will be great. I
am really looking forward to it.
“We just have to keep working hard because we
have had two games now that we didn’t lose so
that shows we have a really strong side.
“We just have to keep working hard and make
sure we give our best in every game.”

NFF:NOT SERIOUS SAYS KESHI

Nigeria’s coach Stephen Keshi gives a press
conference at the Baixada Arena in Curitiba on
June 15, 2014, on the eve of their Group F 2014
FIFA World Cup football match against Iran. AFP

Stephen Keshi has appeared to rule himself out of
a return as Nigeria coach after losing patience
with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Keshi’s contract expired on 30 June, shortly after
he led Nigeria to the last 16 at the World Cup,
and he had been negotiating a new deal.
“Talks over a new contract shouldn’t drag on. I
can’t wait any more – the NFF is not serious.
“I have moved on. I can only wish the country
well for the future,” Keshi told BBC.
Talks had been ongoing since July but a series of
delays caused by problems within the federation,
including the sacking and the Fifa-ordered
reinstatement of the governing body’s president
Aminu Maigari.
“There’s a game in two weeks [Nations Cup
qualifier against Congo] but no-one is thinking
about it and at the same time they expect you to
win,” Kehsi continued.
“I understand the ongoing crisis facing the
federation but the national team should not suffer
from such at this crucial stage.
“Sadly, I also think attention is focused more on
the upcoming NFF elections and the national
team is simply not a priority.”
The NFF officials are understood to have offered
Keshi a new four-year deal and same $30,000-a-
month salary he was paid in his first stint as
manager, while the coach had asked for an
increase.
Keshi says he has rejected offers from other
African countries while the negotiations have been
going on.
“I’ve had about seven countries approach me in
the last two months but I kept them all away,” he
added.
“I love my country and I am aware of the dream
our fans had of me taking this team to the next
level.
“While acknowledging the efforts of some people
involved in the negotiation, I think others probably
have other important things to do.”
Nigeria have already named a 23-man squad for
their upcoming qualifiers against Congo on 6
September and South Africa four days later.
The defending champions will also face Sudan in
Group A with the top two advancing to January’s
finals in Morocco.
Meanwhile, NFF officials say Fifa has endorsed
their plan to hold a general assembly on 26
August to consider and approve a new roadmap
for elections of the body’s executive committee.
The assembly will be asked to postpone the
elections that were also due to be held on
Tuesday, following unresolved complaints raised
by some candidates.

the incredible life style of an entertainer

By Florence Amagiya It is not every day you get to meet somebody who, despite his challenges, has done enough for himself. So it would be right to say that Yinka Ayefele is indeed an icon who didn’t only struggle to make something out of what life has left him with, but has helped others to achieve their goals as well. In this edition, we present to you, an entertainer, an icon and a sensational singer, who has made so much out of what life has thrown at him and who is making millions doing what he enjoys doing. Enjoy Yinka Ayefele Sensational singer and entertainer, Yinka Ayefele needs no introduction to many Nigerians especially to those in the western part of the country. Ayefele is considered to be one of the best Juju singers in the West, even though he became handicapped due to a fatal motor accident. He hails from Ekiti state, south western part of Nigeria. He is the first born of his parents, born in 1968. Ayefele completed his Primary and Secondary education at Ipoti-Ekiti in Ondo state. He began his career as a freelance journalist with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria {FRCN}, Ibadan, Nigeria and later joined Radio Nigeria in 1990 or thereabout. 2015:why Jonathan should run with Sambo; Senator Braimoh

Senator Yisa Braimoh (Edo North from 2007-2011) has been a recurring decimal in the nation’s political arena since the ill-fated third republic. He was a running mate on the National Republican Convention (NRC) gubernatorial ticket in Edo State in 1991; and was in the botched Abacha transition programme leader of the National Congress Party of Nigeria (NCPN). In this interview, he speaks, among others, on the achievements of the President Jonathan administration, the president’s second term in office and why Vice President Namadi Sambo should be retained on the re-election ticket. Excerpts: How would you rate the performance of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration since stepping in the saddle on May 29, 2011? Performance of successive governments in this country, talking about concrete achievements, is an open book that every Nigerian is able to see and read. Even for those who cannot read, they can see Jonathan’s performance all around, evident in the large numbers of critical physical infrastructure like roads, rail lines and remodeled airports, among others. I will talk briefly and in general about these achievements: for instance, a total of 2000 kilometers of road were built or rehabilitated as at the end of 2013-the highest in a single year by any government; in the health sector, 1500 primary healthcare facilities have been refurbished and supplied with essential drugs while several teaching hospitals and medical centres have been rehabilitated and modernized; in the aviation sector, it is evident that for the first time in over three decades, all 22 federally-owned airports across the country are being remodeled, resulting in improved passenger experience while for the first time also, five modern international passenger terminals are being constructed simultaneously in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano and Enugu. In fact, obsolete power infrastructure is being replaced/upgraded across major airports in the country while there has been installation of cutting-edge navigational aids and Instruments Landing Systems (ILS), including runway lights and Total Radar Coverage (TRACON) in order to enhance air safety. In the agriculture sector, although it may not be visible to the eye, four decades of corruption in fertilizer and seed distribution has ended with direct access by farmers, thereby saving the government N25 billion in 2012 alone. There are many more achievements, resulting largely in the nation’s rebased economy with a GDP of $510 billion, which has made Nigeria’s economy the biggest on the continent of Africa and 26th in the world. Does his performance put him in a good stead to win the nomination of his party-the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – and the 2015 presidential election? Oh yes! The president will clinch the ticket of the party hands down based on his record of performance. There is no question about that; and history is also on his side. Since 1999 up till now, sitting presidents enjoy a huge head- start over other aspirants. Olusegun Obasanjo enjoyed that in 2003 when he was seeking for his second term in office. It is not going to be different with Jonathan. Like many Nigerians, I want him to seek re-election. In any case, the choice is his as he has the right of first refusal. But I can tell you that feelers from the grapevine are indicative of Jonathan’s readiness to exhaust his constitutionally-circumscribed right to contest in 2015. After all, he had recently hinted of the possibility of throwing his hat in the ring to defend his position by seeking the votes of Nigerians for mandate renewal next year. I agree with him when he said during his last media chat that he is the defending champion and that pressure should be on the opposition elements to present their candidate. I am very confident that in 2015, Jonathan will lead the PDP to victory in the presidential election and other levels of elections in the country. The president is sharply-focused and he is incrementally delivering on his agenda to transform Nigeria despite the politically- motivated Boko Haram insurgency in the northern part. The insurgency was calculated to make Nigeria ungovernable and to largely distract the president, but to the chagrin of the forces of evil, the president has successfully taken on the responsibility of ending the insurgency and restoring peace in the north of the country. Some forces in the PDP have been quietly plotting for a presidential ticket without Vice President Namadi Sambo as the running mate. Will a change of running mate for the 2015 presidential contest be necessary? Jonathan-Namadi Sambo ticket is a winning ticket any day. Do you change a winning team? To change a winning team, especially after it has been tried, tested and found to be solid, is to engage in a very bad gamble. The team won in 2011 when it had not done much that it could comprehensively flaunt before Nigerians. I expect a more emphatic victory now that it has its imprimatur in a good number of achievements. Apart from the large-scale achievements of the Jonathan administration, I personally would like to locate and identify the peaceful ambience in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa as very important in the process of driving the Transformation Agenda of the Jonathan government. Sambo must be commended for his humility and loyalty to the President. I make bold to say now and for all times that Sambo is an archetypical, humble and loyal vice president. He has shown incredible commitment to the success of the administration by investing massive support for the President, the Federal Government and our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He is calm and does not show that he is desperate for power. I learnt that he was practically cajoled by former Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, to run for the governorship seat in Kaduna State. He was applying himself to governance in the state when in 2010, President Jonathan nominated him to be his Vice President after he (Jonathan) was sworn in as president following the death of then President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. He is the kind of vice president I would run with over and again if I were the president and had the opportunity of multiple terms of office. The feelers from the political terrain in Edo State do not give room for comfort. Why is the political class trying to turn the State upside down? Contrary to your take, it is actually one man who is trying to turn my State of Edo upside down; and that one man is Governor Adams Oshiomhole. In the face of the crumbling and dwindling fortunes of his Party, the APC and Government, Oshiomhole has become increasingly desperate for survival. It is very obvious that PDP’s continuing harvest of decamping APC leaders across board in Edo state is a direct result of Oshiomhole’s policy reversals, bad governance, persistent dictatorial tendencies and surprisingly negative political godfatherism. The governor has suddenly become a victim of his multiple errors of omission, commission and political miscalculations: for example, disenfranchising very many APC leaders by not allowing free and fair primaries in the conduct of the recent APC Congresses. The APC tree in the State is now left standing without any branches. The people and electorate have now realised that Oshiomhole took them on a sentimental journey with nothing to show as political dividends except propaganda which does not put food on any table. Not a single industry has been facilitated in Edo State by Oshiomhole’s government for the teeming unemployed youths of the state. No doubt that the coast is now clear for PDP to take over the State Assembly in 2015 and Osadebey Avenue in 2016. The elements who helped to reinforce Oshiomhole’s hold on the State have left him. Many of them are now in the PDP: leaders like Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Chief Tom Ikimi, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, Hon West Idahosa, Chief Usman Shagaddy, Hon Abubakar Momoh, Chief Stanley Odidi, Hon Eshishie, members of the State House of Assembly, Commissioners and Special Advisers, and so many others. Edo will find its rhythm once again when PDP steps in the saddle of governance in the State in 2016.

Both single and married nollywood actresses sleep around:BLESSING EGBE

It isn’t really clear what prompted Blessing to take to twitter recently to vent her frustration over what she considered as the promiscuous and wanton ways actresses conduct themselves these days. According to the Vow and After the Vow producer, most actresses sleep around for fame, roles and for the simple reason of just getting paid. In several of her tweets, she not only stated as an opinion she did so like an expert dissecting a situation she is very much at home with: “How desperate can one be in pursuit of fame and money? In the end, where will you end up? In hell or in heaven? Not all who call God are true. Sad!” she observed wryly. Then followed up more tersely, “ Single and married women sleeping with countless men to climb to the top! Please when you get there, what next please? Vanity, vanity, vanity Some say the competition is too stiff and must do the uncanny to stay abreast. Please if you don’t have anything to offer, go and sell recharged cards. People now put all artistes under same umbrella. We are not respected because of some greedy, talent-less lot who flood the industry. Husbands skip a heartbeat whenever their wives are on location because of the dirt that goes on. Orgies in hotel rooms involving married couple. Acting is now the gateway to prostitution. People will do anything to have their faces on the screen because ‘market go come and true true market plenty’” she declared. But more thought-provoking than her declarations are the intentions behind them. People have been wondering what got into Blessing.

Fred made this promise after the official unveiling of the movie at Silverbird cinemas, Victoria Island, last week. He described the movie as one of the best movies that ever come out of Nollywood, giving kudos, however, to Lancelot for a job well done. “We have decided to adopt “Invasion 1897” as the opening film of the Abuja International Film Festival. The event was well attended with the hall full to its capacity with people who were eager to see the offering from the maverick director. The movie did not disappoint; as clips of it rolled unto the screen. It received a thunderous ovation from the elated audience. The trailer and poster were also unveiled to the delight of many. Interestingly, the World premiere tour of the movie will commnce with the Toronto African and Music Festival, holding on the 27th of August, where ‘Invasion 1897’ will be the opening film of the festival. Also, there will be a London VIP premiere of the film alongside a major exhibition of Benin bronze works coming up on the 13th of September. This will be followed by a special premiere of the movie at the famous Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C on the 17th of September. Back home, the film will be screened at the Abuja Film Festival, after which there will be special Nollywood premiere. According to Lancelot, the movie will be premiered on the 30th of September, in Lagos and start showing in cinemas nationwide as from the 1st of October.

last Ebola-free region of Liberia falls to virus.

MONROVIA (AFP) – Every region of Liberia has
now been hit by Ebola, officials said Friday, as
the World Health Organization warned the fight
against the worst-ever outbreak of the killer
disease would take months.
After seeing people fall to the deadly virus in area
after area, Liberia said two people had
succumbed to the virus in Sinoe province, the last
Ebola-free bastion in a country that has seen the
biggest toll with 624 deaths.
The virus has spread relentlessly through Liberia,
Guinea and Sierra Leone, and Nigeria has also
been affected despite showing some progress in
fighting the epidemic, which has killed 1,427
people since March.
“(Sinoe) was the last area untouched by Ebola,”
George Williams, head of the Health Workers
Association of Liberia, told AFP.
The country has witnessed chaotic scenes in
recent days following a surge in the number of
patients dying of the hemorrhagic fever.
Aid workers said crematoriums in the capital of
Monrovia were struggling to deal with bodies
arriving every day, and earlier this week, violence
erupted in an Ebola quarantine zone in the capital
after soldiers opened fire on protesting crowds.
In a bid to ease the crisis, medical charity
Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is working on
nearly quadrupling the capacity of its Ebola centre
in Monrovia.
“Currently we have around 60 patients for a
capacity of 120 beds,” said Henry Gray, an MSF
coordinator.
“And we are making our site bigger. In the next
10 days, we hope to have a location that can
welcome up to 400 patients.”
In neighbouring Nigeria, officials said Friday that
two more people had tested positive for Ebola,
taking the total number of confirmed cases to 14,
including five deaths.
- Flare up -
In a news conference in Monrovia, WHO Assistant
Director-General Dr Keiji Fukuda on Friday warned
efforts to combat the disease would take some
time.
“This is not something to turn around overnight,
it is not going to be easy; we expect several
months of hard work. We expect several months
really struggling with this outbreak,” he said at a
press conference alongside Dr David Nabarro.
Nabarro, a physician appointed by the United
Nations last week to coordinate the global
response to the worst-ever outbreak of the
disease, was in Monrovia as part of a tour of the
region.
Speaking to AFP, he said he was determined to
“ensure that every piece of our apparatus is at its
optimum so it could deal possibly with a flare-up
if that’s necessary”.
Nabarro is also due to visit Freetown, Conakry
and Abuja during the trip, where he is tasked with
revitalising the health sectors of affected
countries.
No cure or vaccine is currently available for the
deadly virus, which is spread by close contact
with body fluids, meaning patients must be
isolated.
However, two American missionaries who
contracted Ebola while treating patients in Liberia
made a full recovery in the United States. The two
were treated with experimental drugs.
- ‘They may die’ -
The failure of west African countries to bring the
epidemic under control has worried its neighbours
and nations further afield.
Senegal on Thursday closed its land border with
Guinea, where 396 people have died to date, in an
attempt to stop the epidemic reaching it.
Gabon, meanwhile, suspended flights and
maritime links from affected countries, and said it
would deliver visas to travellers coming from the
Ebola zone “on a case-by-case basis”.
In a further, urgent effort to contain the epidemic,
Sierra Leone’s parliament passed a law on Friday
that imposes a jail term of up to two years for
anyone concealing an Ebola-infected patient.
Ibrahim Bundu, a senior parliamentary figure, took
the opportunity to blast some of the country’s
allies over their closures of land borders or flight
suspensions.
“We are appalled by… the isolation imposed by
those that we considered our best friends at a
sub-regional, regional and global level,” he said.
Meanwhile, as fears grow that the outbreak will
spread across Africa, the Democratic Republic of
Congo — where Ebola was first identified in 1976
in what was then Zaire — said a fever of
unidentified origin had killed 13 people in the
country’s northwest since August 11.
But a WHO official and MSF said Friday it was
too soon to tell whether a haemorrhagic fever
caused the deaths, and the results of swabs are
due in a week’s time.

navy discharges black female sailor for refusing to cut off her natural hair.

This week, the U.S Navy announced that it was discharging Jessica Sims, an Africa American woman who has been a sailor for 12-years, for “failing to obey an order to cut off her natural hairstyle.” The military has been under scrutiny for guidelines issued in March that critics believe were discriminatory toward African- American women. Those regulations “specifically forbid several hairstyles popular for black women who keep their hair natural, including twists, headbands, dreadlocks, or multiple braids that are larger than a quarter-inch.” A former U.S. Army Major, sharply criticized the regulations, noting they targeted “natural styles African American service women have been wearing for years.” Continue.. Sims had been wearing her hair in the same way since 2005, without any apparent issues. In response to the criticism, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel ordered the regulations to be relaxed earlier this month to “allow female service members to have a wider range of hairstyles.” But the Navy found that Sims hair still violated their guidelines. Sims rejected repeated calls from the Navy to change her hair style, saying “I don’t think I should be told that I have to straighten my hair in order to be within what they think the regulations are, and I don’t think I should have to cover it up with a wig.” The Navy said her hairstyle made it difficult for her to wear a gas mask. Sims said that her hair conformed to regulations requiring it protrude less than two inches from her head and that she “never had a problem wearing safety helmets or gas masks.” After her discharge, Sims had no regrets: “I still stand by it. I would do it again if I had to.”

MOURINHO: Cech is unhappy

Manager Jose Mourinho can understand why a
“top professional” like Petr Cech is not happy at
losing his status as Chelsea’s first-choice
goalkeeper – but will not offer any players
selection guarantees. Belgium international
Thibaut Courtois started in goal for the opening
English Premier League match at Burnley on
Monday night, which the Blues won 3-1.
“Petr Cech is a top professional, he is working as
always, behaving as always, being a group man
as always, being a Chelsea person always, and
he is totally happy? I don’t believe so, but it is
not (just) him. It is everyone who didn’t start the
game (at Burnley). This period is hard for them,
for me, because it is a period with one match per
week, so (for the) first three matches, they clearly
feel that some are playing more and some don’t.
Now, when there is only one match per week,
some are not playing and they feel (it) more, but
Petr’s behaviour is fantastic, and that is
important.”
Mourinho, whose side face Leicester on Saturday,
is no stranger to having to make difficult
selection decisions, following spells in charge of
Inter Milan and Real Madrid before returning to
Chelsea for a second spell in June 2013.

I couldnt marry because of my robbery operations.

Its end of the road for a 33-year-old man, Obinna Okolie, who was dubbed the most notorious receiver of stolen goods and a key financier and recruiter of hijackers, terrorizing major highways in Lagos and other parts of the country. Saturday Vanguard learnt during the week that, Obinna who is based in Onitsha, Anambra State, met his waterloo recently when operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Lagos, led by Sp Abba Kyari, tracked and apprehended him in his sanctuary in Onitsha. Sources at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, disclosed that, the search for Obinna, who was described as highly elusive and discreet, began 10 years ago, when operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad,FED- SARS, in Lagos and Abuja, including their counterparts at the state command levels, learnt of his notoriety, following rampant cases of hijacking and diversions, which were traceable to him although he remained elusive. Saturday Vanguard gathered that Obinna, received over 80 percent of all hijacked or diverted goods in Lagos and other adjoining states, between 2003 and 2014. He was also said to have sponsored and maintained over 50 different gangs of armed robbers, which included military personnel, who he had used in perpetuating his criminal activities. In the past, Saturday Vanguard had interviewed several armed robbery suspects, who had links to Obinna, after their arrest by operatives of the Fed-SARS, Adeniji Adele, Lagos and SARS Ikeja. They reveled how Obinna coordinated his operations and created an empire of crime in many areas. . In 2010, at FED-SARS, Saturday Vanguard interviewed 38-year-old suspect identified as Emeka Ikenga, who hijacked a truck carrying, a 40 feet container with goods worth, N11 million from its driver on the Benin-Ore Road and the goods were subsequently diverted to Onitsha, Anambra State. The driver of the truck and his conductor were abducted, sedated and they slept off, but were later dumped in the Mile 2 area of Lagos.. The Imo State-born suspect, who was arrested at his residence in Apapa said was said to be highly fetish and and always escaped police arrest with ease. One accomplice , Ikenga, under arrest said “if the police want to get him, I can drag him out. I wish there is anyone who could surety my release, so I can go after him, but the police would not listen. That man is bad and he has to be taken”. Ikenga, also narrated how they hijacked the truck disguising as military personnel. According to him, “we are based in Lagos and he is at Onitsha. Whenever we get there for operation, he would instruct us on how to go about it. On the operation that brought me here, one of the conductors, Kalu, contacted my Chairman, Obinna, and they made the arrangement. The conductor supplied the name of the driver of the truck and the number-plate. And, when they started out for the journey, Kalu called my chairman, we got alerted and we went after them. ”We intercepted them with our operational Hilux Jeep at Ijebu-Ode and when the driver inquired what was happening, we showed him a warrant bearing his name and the number-plate of the truck, claiming that it was an order from the Chief of Army Staff that all trucks passing en-route should be searched for arms and ammunition and that such vehicles should be towed to the nearest Police station. ”He insisted on driving his vehicle but we refused and pushed him and his conductor into the back seat of our Jeep. ”I went back into his truck. The other members of our gang together with the driver and his conductor, headed back to Lagos. They injected them on the way though I was not there. After a little while, Obinna called us and instructed that we transfer the goods into another vehicle to prevent being trailed. We heeded his instruction and Kalu followed one of the vehicles down to Onitsha and I came back to Lagos, expecting my share of the loot which I did not get until my arrest. A source, who spoke with Vanguard on the condition of anonymity said after FED-SARS busted the gang that operated with Hilux vans, Obinna, recruited a new gang that uses commercial bus. This gang would drive round the Lagos metropolis in their commercial buses disguised as police officers on patrol. Then, they would stage a fake accident with their target, one of the robbers would drive off in the targeted vehicle, while the driver and conductor would be seized by the rest of the gang. Before their arrest, they hijacked an articulated vehicle laden with cartons of engine oil in the Ojuelegba area of state and the product valued at N15million. The eight-man gang were later rounded up by SARS operatives in Lagos and they confessed that Obinna received and also financed their operations. The sourced added that, operatives tried using the suspects to apprehend Obinna but it turned out to be impossible. According to the source, “ We took the suspects and the goods to Onitsha hoping to lure Obinna out with them. After several efforts it turned out that Obinna was elusive. When we got to Onitsha, he sent a driver to take over the truck from the suspect we arrested and take it to his warehouse. We arrested the new driver but we didn’t know that, Obinna also sent another man to monitor the movement of the new driver he sent to us. Soon news got to him that we have arrested the new driver he disappeared. Lucky, we arrested another gang who he sent to hijack PVC pipes and one of them had a direct contact with him. Our OC, Kyari, then hacked into his data and picked out contacts that were very close to him. He then deployed a team to Onitsha, and they kept close watch on those contacts. Fortunately, Obinna contacted one of them who was owing him some money, then our operatives on ground used the person to apprehend him. He was interrogated and he confessed to own the warehouses in Onitsha, Kano State and Cameron. We are currently working hard to retrieve the goods and hand them over to owners.” The source further added that some of his most recent cases included a 40- feet container of Forever Living Product, 40-feet container of PVC pipes and another 40 -feet container of motor tyres. Others were 40- feet container of powder milk, 40- feet container of refrigerators, 40 -feet container of LG home theatre, two trucks of rice, one truck of solder chemicals, two 20ft containers of groundnut oil, a 40 feet container of motorcycle, Umbrella and a 20 feet container of school bags. When Vanguard, interviewed the suspects, he pleaded forgiveness never to return to crime if he is released. According to him “ I have suffered a lot. A lot of people have committed atrocities with my names and the police thought I was the one. I admit I was a bad man but I am now a changed man. I was scared to get married because the police could use my wife to arrest me”. He lamented.

How much sex should you be having?

sex1
you take a roll in the hay every night, once or twice a week, monthly or at no particular time? For the good of your own relationship, how much sex should you be having? Many couples do find infrequent sex to be an issue. While some are fine with the occasional 5-minutes romp under the sheets, others wish they were getting a whole lot more. There are women who worry that their men demand too much sex and secretly wish they’d slow down. But a lot more men complain that it is their women that are not giving it up as often as they (men) desire. On the whole, the average couple is happy if it thinks it’s getting more sex than the couple next door regardless of how much it’s actually getting. Having more sex than your neighbours can actually make you happy, and research shows that couples who have sex at least two to three times a month are more likely to report a higher level of happiness than those who who’ve had no sex during the previous 12 months. The more sex people have, the happier they tend to be, even when factors like income, marital status, health and age are taken into account. What is more surprising is that even people who have reasonable amounts of sex report lower levels of happiness if they think there is a chance they could be having less sex than their peers. Conversely, people who think they are getting more sex than their peers report higher levels of happiness, even if — in the great scheme of things— they aren’t having that much sex. How much is normal? This sounds like a simple question, but there are no right answers. What happens when a couple has what is called mismatched libidos? If she likes to have sex four times a week and he only once or twice, of course they want to find out who is the abnormal one. Essentially the amount of sex you have will depend on you and your relationship, and that the ideal frequency is tricky to pin down.People tend to have more sex in the early stages of a relationship and less lately on.But the average does suggest that a natural sexual frequency is something like once or twice a week in a committed, long term relationship. Many couples will be happy with less, and others will be at it every night, but if you’re up with the average at least you can stop stressing about what’s happening next door and start enjoying what’s happening in your own bedroom. At least once a week Every relationship is different, and the amount of sex you need is the amount that makes both partners happy. While there may be no one right answer to the question of how often couples should have sex, they should to try to do it at least once a week. Pencilling in sex at least once a week means sex becomes a habit, something you fit in however busy or stressed you are. Once a week means you’ll get all the health and wellbeing benefits, too. So the more you have the better. Sexless marriages Generally speaking, a sexless marriage is one in which a committed couple has sex less than 10 times per year. About 1 in five couples fall into this category. This may or may not be an issue, depending on the couple. Some couples, especially older pairs who’ve been together a long time, are perfectly fine with once or twice a year or even not at all, thank you very much. Not having sex doesn’t mean these couples aren’t deeply in love, monogamously committed and happy together. It just means that sex isn’t as high a priority for them as it is for some of their friends, neighbours or people they see on TV and in the movies. Spice up your flagging sex life If you and your partner have gone several weeks or even months without sex and the lack of activity is troubling you, usually a little bit of effort is enough to revive your flagging sex life, especially if the emotional connection between you and your partner remains strong. Try one or more of the following tips Schedule it Sounds horribly unromantic, but really it’s quite the opposite. Plan a relaxing shower and mutual massage as part of foreplay. After all, who doesn’t look forward to a massage? Couples who search together for the right scent of massage oil are off to a great start. Mix it up: Perhaps you’ve always had that special secret fantasy, but you’ve never mentioned it or acted on it. Now is the time to talk about it with your partner. Who knows, maybe he or she is willing to try it. And be sure to ask about his or her secret fantasy. It might be a turn-on for you, too. Just make sure that if you both say yes, you really mean to say yes. No regrets, please. Go away. If you’ve always done it in the bedroom, try another room, the kitchen, or a hotel, or a cabin in the woods. It’s amazing what a little change of venue can do for a stale sex life. Be romantic Give your partner a gift “just because.” Write a list of things you love about your partner and give it to him or her. Plan a surprise date that involves an activity you know your partner enjoys (even if it’s not your favorite thing to do).

Nigeria yet to benefit from $3trn AGOA programme– NACCIMA

Agric-date-palm
The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has called for a reappraisal of Nigeria’s participation in the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), saying the country has not benefited much from the programme.
AGOA is a U.S. preferential trade programme established in May 2000 that provides duty-free access to the $3 trillion U.S. market for thousands of products from eligible sub-Saharan African countries.    As of August 2014, 41 sub-Saharan African countries were eligible for AGOA benefits.
2013 AGOA data published by US Trade and Commerce Department, showed that Nigeria exported products worth $5,403,000 compared to South Africa $3,667, 783,000; Lesotho $320,879,000 and Mauritius $199,268,000; Kenya $342,502,000; Angola $66,000,000; Cameroun $21,650,000 and Ghana $34,673,000.
In a review of 14 years of AGOA and Nigeria’s performance, NACCIMA Director General, John Isemede, noted: “For 14 years Nigeria has been on it but what has been the take home from AGOA; who has AGOA made millionaire in Nigeria?
I am not saying we should pull out; am not condemning it, however, for Nigeria to continue, we have to assess how did we start; where are we today; are we to go ahead with the old system or there will be some adjustments? That is where experts from the private sector and universities have to come in.”
NACCIMA, he said, frowns at a situation whereby America is dictating the price of what they buy from us. “If you are taking produce from Nigeria and we can’t meet your standard, you had better come and investment in Nigeria or bring your own experts to come and teach us the standard.
You asked for ABCD products and you have every right to determine the quality and quantity but you don’t have every right to determine the price for what you don’t produce. What is the essence of determining quality when you have not even worked with our people?”
Recall that AGOA  was signed into law by President Clinton in May 2000 with the objective of expanding U.S. trade and investment with sub-Saharan Africa, to stimulate economic growth, to encourage economic integration, and to facilitate sub-Saharan Africa’s integration into the global economy.
One goal of AGOA is to support sub-Saharan African economic development through trade and investment.  The programme offers tangible incentives to sub-Saharan African countries for undertaking difficult political and economic reforms that promote long-term growth and development.
The Act establishes the annual U.S.-sub-Saharan Africa Economic Cooperation Forum (known as the AGOA Forum) to promote a high-level dialogue on trade and investment-related issues. At the center of AGOA are substantial trade preferences that, along with those under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), allow virtually all marketable goods produced in AGOA-eligible countries to enter the U.S. market duty-free.
The U.S. Congress requires the President to determine annually whether sub-Saharan African countries are eligible for AGOA benefits based on progress in meeting certain criteria, including progress toward the establishment of a market-based economy, rule of law, economic policies to reduce poverty, protection of internationally recognised worker rights, and efforts to combat corruption.
In 2013, U.S. goods imports from sub-Saharan African under AGOA and the related GSP programme totaled $26.8 billion, more than three times the amount in 2001, the first full-year of AGOA trade.
While petroleum products accounted for the largest portion of AGOA imports, non-oil AGOA trade was $4.9 billion in 2013.

US govt commits $14.55m to fighting Ebola

The United States Consul General, Jeffery Hawkins, said, yesterday, that his government has committed over $14.55 million to support the fight against Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, since the outbreak in March, 2014. Hawkins, who disclosed this at a conference in his Ikoyi residence, spoke on the need to work closely with the Nigerian health sector and other responsible bodies towards ensuring people received proper awareness in order to quickly stop the spread of the disease. He said: “Since the Ebola out-break was first reported, United States Agency for International Development, USAID, alone, has committed $14.55 million to support the response. “The US is also working with the World Health Organisation, WHO, and other international partners to help the government of Nigeria, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to respond and contain the out-break of the Ebola virus in West Africa.” Hawkins said the disease would be fought to a stand-still, following the bi-lateral relationship the US shared with affected countries. He also disclosed that the US government had provided Personnel Protective Equipment, PPE, and other medical supplies, field and mobile laboratory and diagonostic capacity, in addition to training and hygiene kits to prevent the spread of the disease. “Full relevant US government agencies, including the Department of State, the Department of Health and Human Service, HHS, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention are increasing every possible form of assistance to the affected countries, their citizens and international organisations.

After an icy soaking the participant then nominates two or three further people to undertake the challenge within 24 hours. Those who forfeit the challenge must donate a larger sum of money to a good cause.

dont blame my cloths if they dont cover my boobs

Yvonne Jegede, one of the girls that featured in Tuface Idibia’s “African Queen” video made a stunning comeback to acting after several years of being away from the industry. Since her return two years, she has been inundated with movie scripts that have kept her very busy. In this interview, she recounts the story of her journey into Nollywood and her personal life. By ANOZIE EGOLE Since you came back to acting after years of being away, how many films have you featured in so far? You know I have been away for five years. I returned to the country in 2012, after my studies abroad. From 2012 till date, I have featured in about eight to ten films. I travelled to America for further studies immediately after featuring in 2face’s “African Queen” video. I studied International Relations in a University in Cyprus. Why didn’t you study Theater Arts? A lot of people have asked this question. But I think I just wanted to study something outside of what I am used to, so that, I can broaden my mind. Your name has become a household name in Nigeria. What would you say is the secret? I cannot tell you what the secret is. But I am just doing what I know how to do best. I leave the rest to God. He has been the one who has lifted me up and I am very grateful to Him. Aside, acting, what else do you think you can do better? I am solely into acting for now, trying to reach a level where I can now live and divert into so many other things. At the moment, I am trying to stablise myself in the industry having been away for a long time. I want to get used to the new Nollywood that is quite different from the one I left behind several years ago. You said, new Nollywood? What’s new about the industry? Before I left the country for America, there were certain set of practitioners in the industry. But today, the story has change. We now have new faces, who have genuine love for the industry. People who have so much talents that they want to explore. It is very interesting to have such people in the industry. It more challenging now because, everybody is bringing something new in the industry. The stories are changing and they are becoming more diversified. So, how do you intend to find your place again in the industry? The people are not my business. I am just here to work. I just want to put heads together with whoever I come across. Give me what you have, and I bring what I have on the table. What can you not do without as a very pretty girl? My eye pack because I love my eyes. I always like to make my lips look good. For the accessories, I can not do without my golden wrist watch. I wear it anywhere I go every day because it gives me good luck. I like big things and that’s why I have to get a big wrist watch. What does love mean to you? I am a lover of love. I love to love. I love to be emotional.Love is something that I appreciate a lot. Trust me, I am a good lover. I love my fans, my folks, I love the people that matters to me. I love to have people around me. What is an ideal man to you? I don’t even know what it is any more. But I think people at different ages have different perspection in respect of what an ideal man is. He should be more intelligent than myself. I need somebody I can learn from him. He should also be able to take care of himself. That’s an ideal man for me. He should not be ugly. Which part of you body do you think is your selling point? I think it is my brain. Talking about the physical things that attracts men to me, it depends. Some people say, it’s my eyes, others prefer my lips and my boobs. So, I do not know. When I love into the mirror, I love everything about myself. How was your growing up like? While growing up, I wanted to be a beauty queen. I just like getting attention. I was the first child. For the first five years of my life, I have the whole attention in the world. I am so used to people coming around me. As a child, I got everything I needed. Tell us about your evolution into Nollywood? As a child, I never dreamed of going into acting. I loved modeling, and how paparazzis run after models. I never had acting in mind until I met Charles Novia. When I saw him somewhere in Surulere, I was like; is this Charles Novia! And he turned around and looked at me and said, do I know you? I replied him, saying I saw you on the television yesterday . He quickly asked me if I wanted to become an actress? I replied in the affirmative. He later gave me his call card and invited me for an audition the following day. That was it. While I was still working on the set with Charles Novia, Uzodimma saw me and insisted taht he would feature me in his music video. The next day, I featured in the African queen video. That was how I started my acting career. Who are the actresses you look up to? I love Genevieve Nnaji. I am also a fan of Omoni Oboli, and many others. Recently you featured in the music video of Sound Sutan. Do you have passion for dancing? Sound Sultan is a big brother. He called me and said, I am shooting my music video. Can you come around and give me your support. When I got there, I ended up featuring in the video. This is the third time, I would be featuring in a music video. I featured in African Queen video, Ego and now, Sound Sutan’s video. Does that mean you are a dancer? I am not a dancer. I am not a video vixien. I can go and sit down and have a class cup and champagne. That is different from dancing. I am not a dancer. What will you say fame has robbed you of? The good and the bad. Good, in the sense that I can walk into anywhere and get favour ,especially in the banking hall. Sometimes, I would be standing in the quene and somebody would walk up to me and asked me how much do you want? And the person would help me to make it faster. But the ugly thing is that, you will not live your life the way you would want to. You attacked Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson on your twitter handle last year. What triggered off the attack? I am not going to comment on it. Everybody took side with Yvonne Nelson, including my friends. So, I am not going to say anything about it. The whole world was against me. I read the negative reactions of Nigerians online. I was not expecting anything less. Even my own friends who never had any encounter with Yvonne Nelson took side with her. You have a penchant for revealing some part of your body, may be your boobs. What happened today? Well, it depends on the clothes. I have big boobs, so, if the clothes are not big enough to cover my boobs you would not blame me for that. I am not the person who made my clothes . I just put the clothes on. You have passion for revealing some part of your body? It depends on my mood. If I want to expose my back, I will do that. It goes with my mood. Is it true that you dated 2face? I didn’t date 2face. I only featured in his “African Queen” video. I have never kissed him before. Are you not planning to get married? When the time comes, I will get married. I have never given it a thought. It’s not about thinking, it is about the right person coming my way. Many ladies have been thinking about settling down for years now, but Mr. right has not come their way. You are saying that Mr. right has not come your way? Let’s take it like that. I don’t even have any relationship right now. Why is it that most actresses do not want to get married? How do you mean? Do you think that a lady would decide to remain single. As a woman, she still needs a man. If you do not have a man in your life, it is so bad. She can never be a happy woman. Among the actors in the industry, who do you have crush on ? Someone asked me this question recently. But, even if I have anybody in mind, do you think I would disclose the person to you. It is a secret that I keep to myself. I am not going to elaborate on that. What is your take on the same-sex law in Nigeria? The answer to the gay law is that, we got some group of people. If you support it, you will have some people that will support you. But if you are against it, you will also, have some group of people who will also support you. So, I am sitting on the fence. I do not want to be on anybody’s bad record. But sincerely speaking, I think for the federal government to pass the bill into law, it must be a very serious matter. Can you play the role of a lesbian in a movie? I can play the role but depending on the script. If the script is conveying a moral lesson, yes, I can do it. So, it has to do with what message you are conveying to the people. Secondly, notwithstanding, as an actress, I should be able to play any role. But, I will gladly play the role as long as I’m not going to kiss a fellow girl on set. What of acting nude? No, I cannot for no reason. I have people I am answerable to. Have you been sexually harassed before now? Sexual harassment in the industry have to do with what you want. If you want to be sexually harassed, you will be. I am saying that because, even when I am walking on the road, or in the banking hall, I usually get passes. But it depends on what you want. I do not think every director would want to sleep with every girl he comes across. Maybe, I am wrong but, I don’t think it is possible. I have had the experience where a produced would refused to feature me in his movie because I did not sleep with him. They might make their advances to me. Having featured in many movies, which of them would you say challenged you most? The more challenging movie I have done since my return is James Town by Ifeanyi Onyeabor. In the movie, I played a role that I have never done before. Most of roles have always been someone who is going to cry, or who has been abandoned and so on. But in the movie, I played the role of a drug seller. I sold all sorts of drugs. I was meant to move about with a guitar all the time. In this guitar, I concealed all the drugs that I was selling. But when nemesis caught up with me, I got bruised. I was busy hurting myself and I enjoyed every bit of the movie. Would you say that the role interpreted your real person? My real person is funny and loving. I have got a very good sense of humor that my friends can’t even contend with, when I start making them laugh. But, the roles I have gotten have nothing to do with my real self. All the roles I have played, none have really shown my real self.

6 ways to know a guy is flirting with you

1.His Body is Facing You
Are his shoulders pointed towards you as
he leans in your direction? "People
position their bodies in the direction
they want to go," says psychologist
Barbara Greenberg, Ph.D. If he's pointed
half out the door, don't give him a
second thought, but if he's fully frontal
while talking to you, that's a sure sign
he's interested.
2.He's Fidgeting a Little Bit
Much like women will toss their hair or
adjust their skirt while flirting, men also
exhibit these preening behaviors, says
Greenberg. Watch for guys squaring
their shoulders, straightening their shirts
or brushing the hair out of their eyes.
3.He Finds Things You Have in Common
Although the saying goes that opposites
attract, Greenberg stresses that
commonalities are crucial when it comes
to flirting. If a guy you're chatting with
makes note that he loves indie rock and
Italian food, too, then there's a big
chance he's interested in learning more
about you.

That Really Works
4.He Prolongs Eye Contact
A guy might be flirting with you from
across the room and you're totally
missing it. If he locks in your gaze for
more than a few seconds, you know
something's up. "Brief contact is
acknowledging," says relationship expert
Christie Hartman, PhD. , author of It's
Not Him, It's You . "Once it's a couple of
seconds or more, that is an extremely
telling sign that he likes something about
you."
5.He Gives a Subtle Eyebrow Raise
Here's a weird but cool tip: Pay attention
to the subtle movements of his eyebrows.
"If a guy raises his eyebrows and quickly
puts them back down, that's usually a
sign he likes what he sees," says
Hartman.
6.He Remembers Little Details
An easy way to tell if he's flirting or not
is if he retains any information about
you, says Hartman. So if you've been
chatting for a while and he brings up
something you mentioned an hour ago,
he's definitely paying attention and
wants to hear more.

Observers said that her action probably saved many Nigerian lives because, if Sawyer had succeeded in forcing himself out of the hospital, it would have been difficult to trace those who had contact with him. The late Dr. Adadevoh was the first grandchild of Mrs Sarah Idowu Abigail Adadevoh nee Macaulay, making her a great granddaughter of the late nationalist Herbert Macaulay described as the founder of Nigerian nationalism. Her Father, Prof. Babatunde Kwaku Adadevoh, who was a grandson of the grand old man of Nigerian anti-colonial politics was also a physician.

I have had sex with 5 dogs, boy tells police

*Taboo …gods to be appeased — Villagers
*Suspects to be charged with unnatural offence
By Simon Ebegbulem, Benin-City
Amid the fear of the Ebola virus in the country, it
was with disbelief that residents of Iguosa
community in Ovia North East Local Government
Council of Edo State ran to an uncompleted
building in the area to see an 18-year-old boy,
simply identified as Ighodaro, making love to a
dog .
Curiously, the dog was said to have enjoyed the
sex before the crowd stormed the scene. Ighodaro
was in JSS 2 before he dropped out from school,
due to the inability of his poor parents to pay his
school fees.
He learnt welding, but, while doing that, he
became a lover of dogs. He confessed to Sunday
Vanguard that he has slept with different dogs
five times until this last episode. It was learnt
that a member of the community was passing by
the uncompleted building when he sighted the boy
making love to the dog and raised the alarm that
attracted the villagers.
Mr George Ogbonmwa, owner of the dog,
expressed shock at the incident, explaining that
when he saw the young man with the dog, he did
not know he had an ulterior motive. “I thought
he wanted to play with the dog only for him to
end up in an uncompleted building where he had
canal knowledge of the dog.
This is like another dream to me because I have
not seen this kind of thing in my life before”.
Following what the villagers described as an
abomination, the Odionwere (head)of the
community, Elder Clifford Igiehon, was invited to
the scene and expressed shock over the incident
which he described as a taboo.
He said,”We have never seen this kind of thing
before in this community. This is an abominable
act and we don’t want the suspect to come and
corrupt other people here. What he committed
was a taboo. We will call the parents to come and
atone the gods but the boy will go on his own,
because we cannot kill him.
But we have killed the dog because that is the
first thing to do. And because we don’t want this
kind of taboo to happen again, we decided to
hand the boy over to the police. This kind of thing
has never happened before, the boy has to face
the music. The parents will perform traditional
rites, it is going to cost about a hundred thousand
Naira.
The boy knows what he is doing, he is not mad.
We know him from the beginning, he was in
school before he went to learn welding; may be
the parents could not pay his school fees. We
were even shocked he said he has had sex with
dogs five times; that will tell you he knows what
he is doing”.
The community leaders further used the
opportunity to appeal to the police: “Give us more
policemen in our area because a lot of evil things
are happening now. Like what the boy did is a
taboo and they must cleanse the land with the
appropriate sacrifice. We need the police to be
around us so that these evil happenings will
stop”.
The suspect, who spoke to Sunday Vanguard at
the Edo State Police Command Headquarters,
Benin-City, said he did not know what was wrong
with him, admitting that he enjoyed sex with five
dogs while two bit him during the act. “I learnt
welding around Iheya. I don’t know when I slept
with the dog, I slept with dogs five times. Some
of the dogs bit me, I have been bitten two times
and each time I have a dog bite my grand father
will treat me”, he said.
Asked about the tactics he deployed to attract
the dogs, Ighodaro stated: “When I call them, I
will be rubbing their head, petting them so that
they will feel free with me. I will be playing with
them and they will follow me. They will bark at
me some times, and when I notice that it is
serious I will leave them. Any one that is friendly
with me, I take that one to an uncompleted
building and have sex”.
The suspect who was asked about his girl friend,
said he broke up with her last year and started
making love to dogs this year. His words: “ I had
a girlfriend last year but we are no longer
together. I started sleeping with dogs this year
around March. I don’t know what is wrong with
me.
None of my relations knows I sleep with dogs. In
this particular case, the dog is very familiar with
me; so it was easy to lure it away. While I was
having sex with the dog, one man saw me and
ran to inform the Odionwere. They now came to
pick me and they asked the police to go and
check me and see if I have any disease. I don’t
know what is wrong with me”.
Edo State Police Commissioner, Foluso Adebanjo,
who reacted to the incident, narrated: “It was the
people of that community that arrested the boy
and called the police.
He was taken to Owotubu Division before he was
transferred to the state Police Command
Headquarters. What he has done is classified
under Unnatural Offences, Section 214 Sub-
Section Two which says that any person who has
carnal knowledge of an animal is guilty of a
felony and he is liable for imprisonment for 14
years if he is found guilty. We are going to charge
him to court. You can see that the guy is not
denying anything.
He made a confessional statement that he has
been sleeping with dogs since March and he has
done it five times. I was very worried because
this is an unnatural offence and it can bring
problem to any community.
You can imagine a human being sleeping with a
dog what will that dog produce in some months
time; , you can see it is a bizarre situation. The
boy looks normal unless if he has spiritual
problem because I can’t imagine some body
sleeping with a dog.
He said he had a girl friend before; you can
imagine if he decides to sleep with another
woman what he will give the woman and that is
how they spread diseases particularly now that
we have different diseases, It is really shocking
that we experience this type of issue every day in
our country. I am very worried but thank God that
the community people have killed that dog
because they said what the boy committed was a
taboo”.

Why I allowed Nkem Owoh to touch my boobs

 Anita-Joseph-3

Anita Joseph is a talented Nollywood actress known mostly for her controversial nature. The actress has over the years grown a thick skin to criticisms and wants people to know that she’s in the movie industry to be an actress in the true sense of the word She has the ability excel in any role she is assigned and she has been a good source of entertainment for many fans. In this encounter with Showtime celebrity Anita opens up on her music and movie career What have you been up to? Work work work… Movies and music but I’m still recording How many movies have you done so far? The one that just came out is Akpabio, the Calabar Boy. Then, there’s Hips Don’t Lie, Festival of Village Girls, Wannabe Girls, Who runs the Village, Twins Blood, and lots of others. I can’t really count. What is your style of music? I do Hip-hop, I do slow songs, blues, I do every kind of music Which songs have you released this year? I’ve done Long Time and Go Gaga Have you featured any artiste in your songs? In ‘Nyem Something’ I featured Flavour. The video came out two years ago You and Afrocandy were recently seen together, are you guys doing a movie? Yes, we are. We’ve not done the job yet. She just did an audition and I was invited over to help in the casting. We did an audition at Excellence Hotel so I went there to help her cast and I’m part of the movie too Is it a porn movie? God forbid. It’s an African movie. Afrocandy does other movies too. The one she’s going to do soon is an epic movie like a village kind of movie. Then the other one is another kind of movie, we call it Glamour. Glamour is the one you have many rich people but the epic is the village one. It’s not a porn movie, don’t mind what people are saying. I assure you it is not porn. Anita cannot do porn. You know why I can’t do porn? Because the money will finish but the movie won’t go. It’s not something I would like to do. Everybody in life has what he or she wants to do. I don’t care what anybody does. Some people say you’re friends with Afrocandy and all that, So What? Do you believe Nigerians are hypocritical about sex? Oh yes they are, some of them do worse things behind closed doors. So don’t judge me. I do what I want to do but I can’t do porn. Anita is crazy, Anita is this, Anita is that, but I can’t do porn. There are some kinds of things I can’t do. If I’m doing business with Afrocandy, it’s movie business not porn and it’s my business. Nobody has the right to tell me I shouldn’t do it because she’s this, she’s that. That’s their business. Can you do sex in a movie? No, I can’t Not even kissing? That’s a normal thing. There’s a way we do kissing in the movie industry, we don’t really do the real kissing but there’s a way we do it. It’s acting. There was a movie I saw you, where Nkem Owoh was touching your boobs, what movie was that? That movie was The Gamblers. In the script, they said he was supposed to touch my breasts; we have to make it real so I gave him my breast to touch and that thing blew people’s minds. That was the whole idea, he touched it for real. Have you done any other stuff like that? I do lots of stuffs like that. It doesn’t matter; it’s the kind of job I do, so it depends. It depends on what the script says, sometimes you just have to pretend to be there. Its pretense, Acting is all about pretense. Which actor do you have chemistry working with? I have chemistry working with everybody but there are some people you work better with, lots of them. If I start mentioning the names, you won’t leave here What do you consider the sexiest part of your body? Everywhere is sexy because everybody has what trips him or her. Some like the boobs, some like the back, some like my legs, I’ve seen somebody that loves my palm. My fingers are very sexy You say you love tattoos, how many tattoos do you have? I used to love tattoos. But I don’t do tattoos anymore and I’m trying to remove them. I’m not a tattoo freak anymore; I’ve grown out of that. In fact the tattoos on my body are mistakes. I advise people not to do tattoos. Tattoos are addictive. If you do one you want to do another, at the end of the day you’ll start regretting them. I don’t love my tattoos anymore. I wish I can clean them out. Where is the most hidden place you’ve done a tattoo? No hidden place, the most hidden one is the one on my waist and on my boobs What do you find attractive in a man? I love men that are simple. I don’t like men that are too loud, I love it simple When did you get into music? I started music professionally four years back but I’ve not released an album yet. I’ve not really been serious with my music because the movies took over but I’ve released two videos, Time No Dey and Nyem something Are you currently in a relationship? I’m single and not searching Have you ever done a movie outside Nigeria? Yes, I have, in South Africa. I did the movie last year but it’s not out yet Anita Joseph Anita Joseph How do you handle your male admirers? They’re not easy to handle but I handle them well enough. In this kind of job, you have to be strong and bold because if you’re not, they’ll just mess you up. So, I handle them perfectly. I try not to be insulting in as much as some of them are very unbearable. Those that are unbearable, you just try and be subtle and manage them with a good smile. What of your critics? I love my critics because if they don’t criticise me, I won’t get better Do you take to their advice? I do listen but some of them don’t make sense. Some of them are beef, maybe it’s somebody that doesn’t like you, you didn’t do anything to the person but the person doesn’t just like you. They did it to Jesus Christ. He didn’t do anything to them but some people hated him, so it happens. Sometimes when you read some things you know that it’s just beef. You might not know the person but the person is beefing you. I don’t care about what they say. What I care about is I take from the ones that are good, I try to amend what is not right but the ones that I know that I’m doing right, I don’t bother What is the craziest thing a fan has ever done when he saw you? Hitting my bum. Someone has seen me in Shoprite before, hit my bum and ran away. There was nothing I could do. There was a movie I did Open and Close. I was a nymphomaniac in that movie, I had sex with everybody around me because it was the story. The guy said that thing you did in Open and Close, can you just do it to me? He started whining in Shoprite, mimicking everything I did in the movie, the way I was doing. I just turned to leave and the next thing he did was to tap my ass. I wanted to pursue him but I wore heels so I couldn’t pursue him. If it were before, I would have chased him all the way. Another day someone called me and started moaning ‘Anita you’re killing me, Anita whine for me’, I said hello, he said ‘Oh please, it’s me please you don’t understand’. It was one of my pictures he saw. He uses my pictures to work on himself and he told me. Mostly he uses private numbers to call me so I wouldn’t be able to call back. That ‘s why I sometimes don’t pick private numbers. What is the craziest thing you have done to a fan ? There was this crazy guy that got my number from somewhere. This guy sends me message everyday of my life, everyday. Telling me how he loves me and how he wants to marry me, till date. At a point I had to call him and invited him over. I mean this guy has been sending me messages for more than two years straight, everyday. My sisters, everybody in my house knows about it. One day I decided to invite him over but when I came out to receive him, he was nowhere to be found. He later called that he could not face me. What is the worst scandal of your life? There was a time I was in South Africa, they wrote something about me that an Alhaji and I were getting married in America. It wasn’t true, I was in South Africa and they said I was in America. Then I was working in South Africa. They said that I went to his office and his wife saw me in the office and embarrassed me. They said me and the wife got into a fight, that people had to come to separate us. I had a relationship and I was very heartbroken. I’ve had lots of them like that. Some people actually believed that story but there was a mix up. That story shattered me at the time. Why did you refuse a marriage proposal from your boyfriend A man cannot just come out and tell me to stop what I’m doing because he wants to marry me. I’m not desperate for marriage. Marriage will come when it will come. My man will come when it’s the right time for him to appear. When my husband comes, he won’t tell me to stop what I’m doing. My husband would be my fan and love what I’m doing, my husband would encourage me. Your boyfriend was telling you to leave acting for him? Yes, and become a complete housewife. I’m an Anambra girl, we don’t do like that. We’re hardworking women. That’s the kind of blood I’m born with; I can’t just leave what I’m doing. Marriage is not a do or die affair What about dating Senators, Governors and Politicians, is it true or false? I have friends all over. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’re dating the person but you know how the world is, if they see you with someone or you’re friends with someone, they conclude you’re dating the person. What more should people expect from you? Lots of new things, it would be a surprise package.
